Tricolor Polvorones

Prepare these delicious tricolor polvorones that are crumbly and full of buttery flavor. They have the perfect texture of traditional polvorones and are very easy to make. The best part is the presentation!

  • 90 grams butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cups vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 6 drops yellow food coloring
  • 6 drops red food coloring
  • 1 egg, for glazing

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease and flour a baking tray.
  • Using a mixer, cream the butter with the lard and powdered sugar.
  • Add the egg and vanilla and beat until incorporated.
  • Gradually add salt and flour, beating until you have a smooth dough.
  • Divide the dough into three, adding cocoa to one, yellow food coloring to another, and red to the last.
  • Shape the three doughs into rectangles and stick them together with the egg. Wrap in plastic wrap and freeze for 10 minutes.
  • Cut the cookies and place them on the baking tray, bake for 10 to 15 minutes, and cool.
