Preheat the oven to 190 degrees.
Grease a round cake pan and flour it.
Mix the flour with the sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
Gradually add the butter, egg, milk, and vanilla until the mixture looks smooth and combined.
Pour the mixture into the greased round pan and bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Let cool for 10 minutes on a wire rack and unmold.
Select the best strawberries (for the top) and set aside.
Chop the remaining strawberries and place them in a bowl with 1 tablespoon of regular sugar.
Whip the cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla until peaks form. Refrigerate until ready to use.
Slice the cake horizontally, creating two layers of cake.
Pour the juices from the chopped strawberries over the two halves.
Take half of the whipped cream and mix it with the chopped strawberries.
Place one layer of cake on a platter and cover with the cream mixed with chopped strawberries.
Place the other layer of cake on top and cover with the remaining whipped cream.
Garnish with the reserved strawberries and serve.
