Northern Flour Tortillas

Traditional northern flour tortillas, with all the flavor of the north, I bring you these delicious flour tortillas, get ready for quesadillas, tacos, enchiladas, or even delicious crepes.

  • 900 grams flour
  • 250 grams vegetable shortening
  • 25 grams butter
  • 250 milliliters cow's milk, hot
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/8 tablespoons baking powder

  • In a deep bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder, melted butter, and mix well with the vegetable shortening, using gentle hand movements and avoiding lumps.
  • Add the egg and continue mixing gently, then gradually add the milk (as hot as you can handle) until a uniform dough is formed, until it no longer sticks to your fingers.
  • Form a ball of dough and let it rest covered with a clean cloth. Allow to rest for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Give it a light knead again and immediately form small balls of dough with your hands.
  • Dust a flat surface with flour, place a ball of dough, and flatten it very lightly with your fingers, then use a rolling pin to make the tortillas.
  • Heat a cast-iron skillet very well and place the tortillas on it, wait for small bubbles to form and then flip them to cook the other side.
