  • 400 grams Monterey Jack cheese
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 5 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces
  • 1/2 cups water, fry
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup vegetable oil

  • Cut the cheese lengthwise in half; cut each half into 4 sticks. Freeze the sticks for 15 to 20 minutes. Meanwhile, mix the flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Add the butter; mix with your hands until it has a crumbly consistency. Add the water and egg; stir until the mixture forms a smooth dough. Knead it on a lightly floured surface for 5 minutes or until it is smooth and elastic; let it rest for 5 minutes.
  • Roll out the dough with a rolling pin to make a rectangle; cut it lengthwise into 8 strips. Wrap 1 strip around each cheese stick so that it is completely covered.
  • Heat the oil in a medium saucepan and add the wrapped cheese sticks in batches; cook for 3 to 5 minutes or until they are golden brown. Drain them on paper towels. Serve them warm.
