Shrimp Meatballs

  • 1 kilo shrimp, raw, peeled, and ground
  • 1/4 cups vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cups masa dough
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, ground
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon cilantro seeds, ground
  • salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons corn oil, for the broth
  • 1 onion, medium, finely chopped, for the broth
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped, for the broth
  • 4 carrots, peeled and sliced, for the broth
  • 2 potatoes, peeled and diced, for the broth
  • 2 Poblano chiles, diced, for the broth
  • 3 tomatoes, seedless and diced, for the broth
  • 2 sprigs oregano, for the broth
  • 2 leaves bay, for the broth
  • 2 liters water, approximately, for the broth
  • salt, or chicken broth powder to taste, for the broth

  • For the broth: in the oil, sauté the onion, garlic, carrots, and potatoes, add the tomato, and season well; add the water with the broth powder or salt to taste.
  • Let it simmer covered on low heat for 10 minutes or until the potatoes are cooked.
  • For the meatballs: Mix the ground shrimp with the dough and the rest of the ingredients, form the balls, and place them in the broth; let it boil until cooked.
  • Serve very hot.
