Vizcaína-Style Tuna Empanada

Christmas is a time to share, and what better treat to pamper family and friends than with delicious Vizcaína-style tuna empanadas shaped like Christmas trees, with a super crispy dough, decorated with cherry tomatoes and parsley.

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cups water, fry
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cups tuna, Vizcaína-style
  • 1 egg, for brushing
  • cherry tomato, for decoration
  • parsley, for decoration

  • Preheat the oven to 180° C.
  • Place flour, salt, water, egg, butter, and baking powder in a mixer, and knead until you have a homogeneous dough. Let it rest for 20 minutes and set aside.
  • On a floured surface, use a rolling pin to roll out the dough to a thickness of 3 mm. With cookie cutters, cut out large trees, circles, and stars.
  • Place the tree shapes on a baking sheet, add the Vizcaína-style tuna filling, and brush the edges with egg. Close with another tree shape and decorate with the circles and stars. Brush with more egg and bake for 15 minutes.
  • Serve immediately and decorate with cherry tomatoes and parsley.
