Caramelized Tofu

If you don't like eating cheese from animal sources, this caramelized tofu recipe will delight you.

  • 1 stick tofu, natural
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 leaf bay
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika

  • Cut the tofu into medium-sized pieces or to your preferred size.
  • Place the tofu pieces in a bowl and drizzle with soy sauce. Let it marinate while you prepare an infusion.
  • For the infusion: add the olive oil, bay leaf, garlic, and sweet paprika. Cook over low heat.
  • Let the infusion cool down and add the maple syrup. Stir well.
  • Add the infusion to the bowl where you placed the tofu with the soy sauce and let it marinate for 2 hours.
  • In a skillet, brown the tofu on all sides. Once ready, pour the mixture left in the bowl and let it reduce a bit.
