Homemade Tamales

Prepare this recipe, we show you how to make tamales ✅ with chicken and green sauce. You can make them with different fillings and sauces ✔. They are delicious!

  • 250 grams lard, (for the dough)
  • 500 grams masa mix for tamales, (for the dough)
  • 1 cup chicken broth, (for the dough)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder, (for the dough)
  • 1 teaspoon salt, (for the dough)
  • 1 teaspoon pepper, (for the dough)
  • 1 liter water
  • 500 grams tomatillo
  • 5 serrano chiles
  • 1 clove garlic, without shell
  • 1/4 onions
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 pinches salt, fine
  • 1 pinch black pepper, ground
  • 1 boneless chicken breast, cooked and shredded.
  • 10 corn husks, for tamale soaked in water.

  • For the dough, soften the lard with a mixer for 5 minutes.
  • Add the chicken broth to the flour gradually until a dough forms. (be careful not to make it watery)
  • Add the dough to the lard gradually and mix. Add the baking powder and season. Set aside.
  • For the sauce, add the water to a pot and put it over medium heat, add the tomatoes, garlic, and onion, and cook for 10 minutes. Remove the water and blend perfectly in the blender.
  • Heat the oil in a small pot over medium heat, add the sauce, cook for 5 minutes, and season. Set aside.
  • Take a corn husk, add two large tablespoons of dough, spread it very well, add a tablespoon of sauce and a tablespoon of chicken.
  • Close the corn husk perfectly and fold it up from the bottom. Tie it with a piece of husk so that they do not fall apart. This is how to make all until the dough is finished.
  • Add water to a steamer, arrange the tamales, and steam them over high heat for 55 minutes or until cooked.
