Portobello Burgers

The steak of vegetarian burgers: portobello or portabellini mushrooms. Serve with hamburger buns, lettuce, and tomato. This is a delicious option to consume more vegetables in your diet.

  • 4 portobello mushrooms
  • 1/4 cups balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, mashed
  • salt and pepper
  • provolone cheese, sliced
  • 4 burger buns
  • lettuce
  • tomato
  • onion, in rings
  • avocado

  • Cut the stems off the mushrooms and place them in a baking dish with the smooth side facing up.
  • Mix the vinegar, oil, basil, oregano, garlic, salt, and pepper well in a small bowl.
  • Pour over the mushrooms and let sit at room temperature for 15 minutes, turning twice.
  • Brush the grill, griddle, or barbecue with oil and heat to medium-high.
  • Place the mushrooms on the grill, reserving the marinade for basting during cooking. Grill for 5 to 8 minutes on each side, or until softened. Baste them with the marinade frequently.
  • Cover with cheese slices during the last 2 minutes to melt.
  • Add vegetables to taste: lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado.
