Place them in a colander with salt under a stream of water. Squeeze the salt out while the water runs over them. This is what softens both the flavor and texture of the onion.
Let them drain for a few minutes.
Slice the tomatoes into thin slices.
Serve the tomatoes on a platter with the onions on top and drizzle a little lime juice over them.
