Homemade Tamarind Sauce

This spicy tamarind sauce is perfect for accompanying any dish, whether it's meats or fish; its sweet and sour touch will go well with everything. You can enjoy it hot or cold; it is a very versatile sauce.

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 1/4 cups red onion, chopped
  • 2 cups tamarind pulp
  • 1 chipotle chile in adobo sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch pepper

  • Heat the olive oil in a skillet, cook the garlic, onion, and tamarind pulp, and let it come to a boil.
  • Lower the heat, add the chipotle chili in adobo and the sugar. Cook for 5 minutes and let it cool slightly.
  • Blend the sauce until you get a smooth and homogeneous mixture. Return to the pot and cook over low heat for 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Serve hot or cold.
