White Sauce (Béchamel)

  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup cow's milk, at room temperature
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  • Add the flour to the butter and mix with a whisk for 1 minute.
  • Continue mixing and gradually pour in the milk. Make sure to keep mixing to avoid lumps.
  • Increase the heat to medium and continue cooking and mixing until the sauce has thickened and starts to boil.
  • Lower the heat and cook for 5 more minutes while continuing to mix.
  • Remove from heat and add salt and nutmeg.
