Homemade Flour Tortillas

This recipe is a delicious way to prepare flour tortillas for your breakfasts or dinners. Ideal for pairing with meat or even for making quesadillas. Add salsa and you'll have delicious tacos. You can even try them vegetarian.

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon lard
  • 1/2 cups water

  • Mix the salt, flour, and baking powder in a bowl. Incorporate the shortening until the mixture resembles crumbs.
  • Add the water and mix until the dough begins to form.
  • If necessary, add more water (1 teaspoon at a time) until the dough forms.
  • Cover with a clean, damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into 12 balls. Roll out the balls with a rolling pin on a lightly floured surface.
  • Form tortillas about 18 cm in diameter.
  • Cook on an ungreased griddle over high heat until some brown spots appear.
  • Keep the tortillas covered and warm with a clean towel until serving.
