In a bowl, lightly beat the egg, add the oil, milk, flour, salt, and pepper to taste.
Beat until a smooth and homogeneous batter forms. Meanwhile, slice the onion into thin rings (about 1/2 cm). Coat each ring in the batter and drain a little before frying in hot oil.
Be careful not to fry too many rings at once, and make sure the oil is hot but not excessively so, to give the onion time to cook a little better. Fry until golden, turning with a fork.
Remove the fried onion rings and place them on paper towels before serving.
