Potato Gratin with Strips

This potato gratin includes strips and melted cheese on top. It is a great side dish for a roast meat.

5 Poblano chiles, roasted, peeled and cut into thin strips
1/2 kilos onion, cut into strips of 1 cm
1 tablespoon oil
1 1/2 kilos potato , large
1 1/2 cups whipping cream
3/4 cups whole milk
1/4 cups grated cheese, for gratin

Roast the chiles, peel them, and cut them into strips.
Cook the onion in slices with a teaspoon of salt in a large pot over medium heat for 8 minutes, until browned.
Add the strips to the pot and turn off the heat.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees with the oven rack in the middle.
Grease a baking dish with butter.
Peel the potatoes and slice them very thin.
Place the potato slices in the pot where the strips and onion were cooked.
Add the cream, milk, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
Stir everything well and place in the greased baking dish (a pyrex).
Bake for 45 minutes.
Remove from the oven and add grated cheese, then return to the oven for about 5 minutes until golden.
Let rest for 15 minutes before serving.
