Peel each potato and cut into sticks 1 cm x 1 cm wide, with the same length as the potato. The potatoes should be almost the same size so that when frying, they require the same cooking time. Place the potatoes in water as you cut them to prevent oxidation.
Remove the potatoes from the water and dry them very well.
Mix the flour, garlic powder, and salt in a bowl. Add the potatoes to the mixture and coat them well. Remove the excess flour.
Heat the vegetable oil in a pot over medium-high heat. To determine if it is hot enough, add a little flour, and if bubbles form, it means that the oil is ready.
Add a handful of flour-dusted potatoes and fry for 10 to 12 minutes. When the potatoes are golden, remove and place on a plate with paper towels. Immediately afterwards, sprinkle with a little salt.
Enjoy the French fries with ketchup.
