Red Cabbage with Apple

  • 1 kilo red cabbage
  • 1 apple
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 leaf bay
  • 1/2 teaspoons juniper berries
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1/4 cups red wine
  • 2 cloves
  • 3/4 cups water
  • salt and pepper

  • Wash and slice the cabbage thinly. Peel and slice the apple.
  • Melt the butter in a large saucepan, add the cabbage and apple, stirring constantly. Add the flour and season with salt, pepper, bay leaf, juniper berries, and clove. Cook this way for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the wine, 3/4 cup of water and stir until everything is well mixed, cook uncovered for 10 more minutes. The liquid should evaporate, so we can cook it for a few more minutes if it is still juicy.
  • If desired, you can season with salt and pepper. Serve immediately.
