Sushi Rice

Sushi rice is a short-grain rice that is seasoned with rice vinegar. This rice is ideal for making sushi due to its consistency and flavor.

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt

  • Place the rice in a deep bowl with cold water and watch as the water takes on a slight white color. Drain the rice and repeat until the water remains clear.
  • In a pot over medium heat, combine the rice with 2 cups of water. Cover and let the water come to a boil, then reduce to low heat and cook for 20 minutes or until all the water has been absorbed.
  • Remove the lid and let the rice sit at room temperature for 10 minutes.
  • Pour the rice into a deep bowl. In another bowl, mix the vinegar with the sugar and salt, then add it to the rice. Stir with a fork without smashing the rice.
  • Allow the rice to cool before using for sushi, or serve it as is in a deep plate accompanied by soy sauce and fish sashimi.
