  • 4 cups whole-wheat flour, for the flour tortillas
  • 1/3 teaspoons salt, for the flour tortillas
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder, for the flour tortillas
  • 1 cup vegetable shortening, for the flour tortillas

  • For the tortillas, in a bowl mix the flour with the salt, baking powder, lard, and water. Knead until a homogeneous dough is obtained. Let it rest for 15 minutes.
  • Take a small ball of dough and on a floured surface, roll out the dough to form the tortilla.
  • Place the tortilla on a comal over low heat and cook for 3 minutes or until the tortilla puffs up and is cooked inside.
