Traditional Onion Soup

This traditional onion soup recipe is exquisite due to its delicious combination of ingredients, with a rich flavor of butter, white wine, and melted Emmental cheese; you'll melt with flavor from all that cheese.

  • 3 onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cups white wine
  • 1 sprig thyme
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 baguette, in slices
  • thyme, for garnish

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • Heat the butter in a saucepan, add the sliced onion, and fry until soft and golden.
  • Add the flour while stirring, pour in the beef broth and white wine, season with salt, pepper, and a sprig of thyme. Cook for 10 minutes over low heat.
  • Pour the soup into a bowl, add the bread on top of the soup, and the cheese slices until completely covered.
  • Gratin in the oven for 5 minutes.
  • Serve hot and garnish with a sprig of thyme.
