How to Keep a Carved Pumpkin Fresh

Carved pumpkins are a great decorative element for Halloween and Día de Muertos, but often we carve them and they spoil before the date arrives. Follow this step-by-step guide to learn how to keep a carved pumpkin fresh for longer.

Step by Step

1
Mix 1 teaspoon of bleach per gallon of water, until you have enough water to cover the pumpkin. This way you prevent mold from forming.
2
Submerge the pumpkin to cover completely and let it soak for 8 hours.
3
Remove from the liquid and dry with paper towels.
4
Spray a little of this mixture every 2 days. Do not use petroleum jelly, as it can promote mold growth.
