The lemon is cut in half, crosswise, and then each half is cut into 6 cubes.
In a cocktail glass, we add 6 to 8 lemon cubes (depending on size), the raspberries, the mint leaves, and the syrup or sugar. With a cocktail muddler, we mash the ingredients down to the bottom of the glass until they release their juices and are well mixed.
We add half of the crushed ice, the rum, and mix, so that the ingredients come up from the bottom and are evenly distributed throughout the glass. We add a little more ice until reaching 3/4 full and add soda or sparkling water to fill the glass.
