Loukamades (Honey Balls)

  • 25 ounces active dry yeast
  • 2.5 liquid ounces water, warm
  • 5 liquid ounces cow's milk, hot
  • 1 ounce sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 ounces butter, melted
  • 8.8 ounces flour, sifted
  • vegetable oil
  • 4 Greek style yoghurt Fage® total 0% honey
  • cinnamon powder
  • sesame seeds

  • Mix the yeast with the warm water until dissolved.
  • Mix the sugar and salt with the warm milk and melted butter and beat in the egg.
  • Add the yeast mixture to the milk mixture and fold in the sifted flour to form a thick dough.
  • Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it sit in a warm place for 1 1/2 hours or until the dough rises and bubbles form underneath the surface.
  • Heat the oil in a pan and make balls with the dough and add them to the pan.
  • Turn them until golden brown.
  • Lift with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to remove excess fat.
  • Serve the balls hot.
  • Drizzle with honey from FAGE® Total 0% Greek Yogurt and sprinkle with sesame seeds and cinnamon.
  • Serve on a plate with FAGE® Total 0% Greek Yogurt.
