Pita Bread

Delicious bread to fill with cheeses, cold cuts, meats, or to accompany couscous, and it can also be used to make pizzas.

  • 2 tablespoons yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 6 cups flour
  • 1/4 cups olive oil, or vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups water

  • Dissolve the yeast in a quarter cup of warm water along with the sugar and let it rise.
  • Mix the flour with the salt and add the olive or vegetable oil, water, and yeast; knead until the dough is smooth and does not stick to your hands, then let the dough rise until it doubles in volume, knead again, and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into 10 parts and form small balls, then roll them out into round shapes about half a centimeter thick, and let them rise for a little while.
  • Meanwhile, prepare a baking tray dusted with flour and place it in the oven for 5 minutes. Remove the hot tray and place the pitas on it. Bake at 200ºC for about 5 to 10 minutes until they puff up slightly.
