Sweet Tamales

Recipe for sweet tamales with raisins made at home. These tamales are traditional in Mexican cuisine, a perfect treat to enjoy with a rich cup of atole. You can eat them for breakfast or dinner.

  • 1 kilo corn masa flour, for tamales
  • 450 grams lard
  • 150 grams sugar
  • 150 grams raisins
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 can condensed milk
  • 1/2 cups anise, boiled
  • 1/2 cups cow's milk
  • 1 bunch corn husks
  • 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt

  • Boil half a teaspoon of anise in half a cup of water. Strain and mix with the flour, baking powder, half a teaspoon of salt, sugar, and milk, until a dough forms.
  • Beat the shortening until it is white and fluffy; then add the dough, the condensed milk, and, if necessary, a little more milk.
  • Beat until a small ball of dough floats in a cup of water.
  • Take portions of this dough and wrap them in the leaves that have already been soaked and drained.
  • Add several raisins and steam for 1 hour until they come off the leaf.
