Chicken Reina Pepiada for Dad

This chicken reina pepiada for dad is the most famous AREPA from Venezuela, filled with chicken in a very special way.

  • 1 cup flour, pre-cooked for making arepas
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • salt
  • 1/2 chicken breasts, cooked and shredded
  • 1 tomatillo, large ripe plantain, sliced
  • 1 onion, in slices
  • 1 avocado, ripe plantain cut into slices
  • mayonnaise
  • tomato sauce
  • mustard

  • Put water in a bowl with salt and gradually add the flour while mixing to avoid lumps. Let it rest for a few minutes and knead until it comes off your hands. Divide the dough into 3 balls, always wetting your hands a little to make the arepas, and on a greased cooking surface, cook them until they are golden brown.
  • In a skillet, add a splash of oil and add the shredded chicken, minced garlic, and a well-crushed chicken bouillon cube; if you like, a bit of pepper is optional. Heat until slightly golden and set aside.
  • Slice the tomatoes, onion, and avocado, and have the spreads ready.
  • Open the arepas and add your preferred spreads, then place the avocado, onion, tomato, and finally the shredded chicken...
