Hunan Oriental Chicken

A delicious oriental chicken that you can easily make at home. Hunan chicken is a typical dish from China, and this recipe turns out delicious.

  • 1/2 cups ketchup, (for the sauce)
  • 2 cups white vinegar, (for the sauce)
  • 2 cups sugar, (for the sauce)
  • 1/2 cups soy, (for the sauce)
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped (for the sauce)
  • chives, for garnishing
  • sesame seeds, for garnishing
  • vegetable oil, for frying
  • 3 chicken breasts, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cups cornstarch
  • salt, and pepper to taste
  • 2 eggs

  • Mix all the ingredients for the sauce in a pot and cook over low heat until thickened.
  • In a deep bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, and season with salt and pepper.
  • In another deep bowl, beat the eggs.
  • Pass each chicken cube through the flour mixture, then the eggs, and then back through the flour, and place on a plate.
  • Heat about 4 cups of oil for frying in a large skillet, and once hot, fry the chicken until golden and crispy.
  • Place the chicken in the pot with the sauce, mix well, and serve; you can garnish your dish with sesame seeds and/or green onions.
