Chamoy Covered Apples

Make your own chamoy apples with natural ingredients. Enjoy the blend of sweet, spicy, and tangy flavors. We made them with 100% natural cane Domino® Mascabado Sugar.

  • 10 guajillo chiles, cleaned and deveined
  • 1 cup tamarind concentrate, natural
  • 1/2 cups water
  • 2 1/2 cups Domino® raw sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 cups lime juice
  • 1 1/2 cups chile powder
  • 4 green apples, (granny smith)
  • Wooden stick

  • Heat over medium temperature in a medium saucepan the guajillo chili, tamarind concentrate, and water; boil for 5 minutes, remove from heat and let cool slightly to room temperature.
  • Blend the chilis for 3 minutes until you get a smooth paste; return this paste to the saucepan and add Domino® Mascabado Sugar, salt, and lime juice, cook over low heat for approximately 10 minutes, or until the sugar is dissolved, you should obtain a semi-thick texture; remove from heat.
  • Add chili powder until a paste forms; let it cool completely.
  • With the help of your hands, pierce the apple with the wooden stick without going all the way through; cover the apples with the paste making a thin layer; freeze for 10 minutes.
  • Cover the apples with chili powder and pour chamoy to taste.
