How to make chongos zamoranos?

Delicious and traditional chongos zamoranos dessert from Michoacán, a recipe from the colonial era created in the convents of Zamora, this rich dessert is made from curdled milk with a sweet touch of sugar, flavored with cinnamon. Prepare them with us; they are really great.

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 2 sticks cinnamon, for chongos and for decoration
  • 3 tablespoons piloncillo, grated
  • 2 limes, for juice

  • Heat a pot with the milk, add the sugar, cinnamon, and piloncillo, heat enough without reaching boiling point so that all the ingredients release their aroma.
  • Add the lemon juice, incorporate it into the mixture so that the milk curdles.
  • In a small pot, cook the chongos until they take on an amber color; do not stir the chongos for 2 hours.
  • Remove the chongos from the pot, strain, and serve with a bit of the liquid, accompanied by some cinnamon sticks.
