Vanilla Bread Pudding

If you don't know what to do with the leftover bread from the week, prepare this vanilla bread pudding; it’s an economical dessert made with ingredients you have at home.

  • 1 baguette, preferably stale
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 cups table cream
  • 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla essence
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • orange zest
  • condensed milk, to accompany

  • Preheat the oven to 180 °C
  • Cut the baguette into 2 cm slices using a serrated knife. Set aside.
  • Mix the milk with the sour cream, eggs, half-and-half, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and melted butter in a bowl. Combine with a whisk until you have a smooth mixture. Set aside.
  • Place the bread in a rectangular baking dish, then pour the previous mixture over it and let it soak for 10 minutes or until the bread softens. Then, using a whisk, press down to break up the bread as much as possible; you can also use a potato masher. Bake at 180 °C for 25 minutes.
  • Remove the bread pudding from the oven, let it cool, cut, and serve with condensed milk.
