Tequeños are the most famous and beloved Venezuelan appetizers, made with cheese sticks wrapped in dough and fried when eaten, they are crunchy, very tasty, and simple.
In a countertop or a bowl, mix the wheat flour with salt and baking powder.
To the previous mixture, add the 3 tablespoons of margarine and mix with your hands until a floury mixture forms (the flour will turn yellow and look like little balls).
Add the 3 eggs, one at a time, and continue mixing by hand. Then add the water gradually until a very soft dough forms.
Let the dough rest in a bowl covered with a cloth for approximately 30 minutes.
For assembling the tequeños.
Cut white cheese sticks of 1x1 cm wide by 5 cm long.
After the 30 minutes of resting the dough, add flour to the countertop and with a rolling pin, roll it out until it is thin (approximately 2mm thick).
Cut strips approximately 1 cm wide.
For assembling, take a cheese stick and place it on one end of the dough strip, turning the stick until the dough completely covers it.
Then cut the strip and roll the rest of the dough strip around the stick in a spiral shape, until it is completely covered.
As we prepare them, we reserve them on a tray previously dusted with flour.
In a pan with plenty of hot oil, fry the tequeños until golden, remove from heat, and drain on absorbent paper.
