Camarones a la Diabla (Shrimp Diablo)

Shrimp Diablo that you will love. Everything is prepared in one skillet with easily accessible ingredients. Ideal for Lent.

  • 8 El Guapo® california chile pods
  • 3 árbol chiles
  • 1/4 onions
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 allspice berries
  • water, hot, to soak the chiles
  • 2 chipotle chiles, in marinade
  • 1/4 cups Heinz® ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon coarse salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, for the sauce
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 cups onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 800 grams shrimp, medium. Shell-on, cleaned and deveined
  • salt and pepper
  • fresh cilantro, fresh, for garnish

  • Remove the stems and seeds from the El Guapo® California chile pods and the árbol chiles.
  • In a comal, roast the chiles along with the onion, garlic, and allspice. Remove and soak the chiles in hot water until softened.
  • Blend the soaked chiles with a little of the soaking liquid, what you previously roasted, the chipotle, Heinz® Ketchup, and salt until you obtain a smooth sauce.
  • Heat a pot over medium heat with the vegetable oil and cook the sauce for about 10 minutes.
  • In a deep skillet, heat the butter and cook the onion and garlic. Add the shrimp, cook until they change color, season with salt and pepper. Add the sauce, cook for a few more minutes, and serve with cilantro and white rice.
