  • vegetable oil
  • 6 morita chiles, seedless
  • 4 guajillo chiles, seedless
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 4 tomatoes, in quarters
  • 1/2 onions
  • 2 cups shrimp shells and heads
  • 2 cups water
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 cup potato, in medium cubes
  • 1 cup carrot, in medium cubes
  • 2 cups medium-sized shrimp, clean
  • 2 cups water
  • cilantro leaves, for garnish
  • lime, in slices, for garnish

  • Heat a little oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the morita chili, guajillo chili, garlic, onion, tomato, and shrimp shells. Cook for 5 to 8 minutes, pour in the water and cook for 5 more minutes. Remove and set aside.
  • Blend the ingredients for 5 minutes and strain.
  • Heat the oil over medium heat, add the garlic, potato, carrot, and shrimp and cook for 10 minutes. Add the sauce and water and cook for 10 more minutes.
  • Serve the red shrimp broth and garnish with epazote leaves and lime.
