This caramel sauce for desserts is very easy to prepare. It tastes delicious over vanilla ice cream and complements any type of cake.

1 cup sugar
1/4 cups water
1 tablespoon butter
3/4 cups evaporated milk
1/2 teaspoons vanilla essence

Low
Stir the sugar with the water in a pot over low heat. Let it cook until it reaches an amber color (without stirring!).
Cover to allow the sugar crystals to dissolve for 1 minute.
Remove the pot from the heat and add the butter and evaporated milk.
Return the mixture to the heat until the ingredients dissolve and combine.
