This back to school season for children, whether in-person or virtual, requires our attention to their nutrition, so they can perform excellently in their classes, have energy, and especially, maintain a balanced and comprehensive diet.
That’s why
at #KiwiTeCuida we will have on Monday, August 23 at 6 PM, a conversation with child nutrition specialist
Gina Rangel and
Fernanda Balmaceda, deputy editor of Kiwilimón, to explore all your doubts and provide you with the necessary tools to prepare a healthy lunchbox daily, in a practical, quick, and flavorful way.
Some of the tips for preparing a healthy lunchbox that Gina Rangel will elaborate on include:
• Always include the 3 macronutrients in their lunchbox: proteins, carbohydrates, and healthy fats.
• Send natural water, at least 350 ml for small children and 1/3 liter for older ones.
• Give them healthy options: in in-person classes, they will always share lunch with classmates, hence the 80/20 (balanced eating rule).
• For virtual classes, it is very important to have a space outside the study area to eat lunch.
• Avoid processed options. One recommendation is to prepare lunch with them, as involving them in the process can guarantee their interest and consumption.
• Have a list of basic ingredients they like. It’s better to have 5 options they eat and enjoy than to have a lunchbox returned full.
• When children have physical education classes or any sports, always give them a healthy carbohydrate option to ensure they have energy for these extra activities.
• Include a note in their healthy lunchbox expressing your affection and good wishes; it will make your little ones' day better!
