Although they come from the same fruit, coconut oil and coconut butter are very different ingredients, but both can play an important role in your kitchen. These products can be used to cook sweet and savory dishes, adding a different flavor and texture. If you don't know where to find them or how to use them at home, here's a note on coconut oil vs coconut butter.
What is the difference?
Coconut oil comes from the pulp of the fruit, it is extracted and filtered to remain clean and clear. On the other hand, butter is also made from the pulp, but the whole pulp is used and ground until a creamy consistency is achieved. This means that the butter not only includes the same oil but also the fiber, vitamins, and sugars from the coconut.
Where can I find them?
Although it is not a very common product in Mexico, there are ways to buy coconut butter and oil near your home. Most supermarkets have a gourmet or Asian section, where you can find these products in bottle or can format.
Thanks to the health benefits of both products, you can also find them in health food stores. This way, you will not only find the oil and butter but you will probably find the organic version, which is much better.
How to use them?
Oil
Coconut oil can be used for personal care and cooking. It is especially good for roasting, sautéing, frying, and even baking because it is very stable and has a high smoke point, which helps achieve golden skin on chicken and fish and a fluffy consistency in cakes among other things. We recommend substituting oil with coconut oil in the following recipes for a much crispier result:

Butter
On the other hand, butter can be used as an ingredient without the need to cook it. Of course, you can substitute regular butter with coconut butter if you want a sweeter and more tropical flavor, you can also use it to spread on pancakes, French toast, etc. In the following recipes, we recommend it instead of butter or as a substitute for frosting.
