Although there is not a single Arabic cuisine, as there are many variants according to the regions, one of its main characteristics is that it follows Islamic rules regarding lawful and unlawful foods, such as pork and alcoholic beverages, to name a few.

Among its basic ingredients are chickpeas, flatbreads, freekeh (green wheat), boiled wheat, tahini, pistachios, and spices like za’atar or cardamom. Above all, Arabic cuisine is about sharing food and precious moments with friends and family.

With vibrant colors and plenty of fragrance, here are some typical dishes of Arabic cuisine that you should dare to try when you have the opportunity.

Hummus
Hummus is a spread made with chickpeas, which can be eaten on traditional warm pita bread, as well as in a burger or a baked potato. You can make it at home with this creamy and smooth hummus recipe

Mankush
This is like an Arabic pizza, as it is a round bread sprinkled with cheese, ground meat, or herbs, usually prepared for breakfast or lunch. It can be found both in elegant Levantine restaurants and with street vendors.

Ful medames
This is a traditional Egyptian dish made with fava beans, olive oil, parsley, onion, garlic, and lemon, cooked in a copper pot to achieve the right flavor. Although this dish may not have the most appetizing presentation, the taste compensates for everything.

Falafel
This dish is well known and looks like a snack of fried chickpeas with herbs, but it can also be eaten as a filling for pita bread.

Tabuleh
The tabbouleh is a typical dish of Lebanese cuisine, which is prepared with cracked wheat, or bulgur, and complemented with herbs and vegetables such as tomato, onion, parsley, mint, a touch of olive oil, and lemon for acidity. This salad is also one of the most famous dishes in Arabic cuisine.

Baba ghanoush
This paste made from mashed eggplant is served with pita bread and is also known as mutabal.
