5 places to eat in CDMX

Do you have a romantic date and don’t know where to go? Want to pamper mom on her birthday? Look no further and visit one of these 5 places to taste the best flavors of the city.

Trattoria Grata

If you’re looking for a romantic place with delicious food like pizzas and pasta, Trattoria Grata is the perfect spot to satisfy your cravings. Located in the heart of Polanco, this Italian restaurant has a menu variety that will surprise you and prices that are quite fair for the quality they offer. I definitely recommend trying the pizzas, but don’t leave without tasting the eggplant ashes as an appetizer and the beef tail pasta, which is the only place in CDMX where I've found this peculiar dish, and it has a spectacular flavor. Everything you try has a rich smoky touch because they prepare it on the spot in their brick oven, so it’s a must-visit.

Pho King

My weakness for Vietnamese food led me to try Pho King, a place that serves a great variety of dishes that leave you with a big smile on your face.

The specialty of the place is pho, a broth with noodles, but it’s not just any soup. This Vietnamese dish has a unique aroma and flavor thanks to its seasoning with star anise, garlic, cardamom, ginger, coriander seeds, and more. It’s a true feast of flavors.

If it’s your first time eating Vietnamese food, I recommend ordering the chicken pho, but if you’re not a fan of broths, then it’s better to order some shrimp spring rolls. Whatever you do, don’t forget to order the Thai tea with coconut milk, it’s a true delight.
Recommended by Gretel Chávez, Editorial Coordinator.

Juan Jocoques

In the Cuauhtémoc neighborhood hide some delicious Arab tacos: Juan Jocoques. The best part? They have a branch on Río Lerma and another on Río Pánuco.

To start, order a dry jocoque as an appetizer and pair it with a beer or a refreshing mint lemonade. As a main dish, you can order a taco or a kilo of Arab meat. If you go with several people, my tip would be to order the second option and add a melted cheese, 100% recommended.

Don’t forget to try their jocoque sauces with serrano chili and the Arab sauce, both are spectacular. If you’re not into meat, try the falafel taco with tabbouleh, radish, and jocoque.

María ciento 38

In the heart of the Santa María La Ribera neighborhood, you’ll find this cozy restaurant serving Sicilian food. It features a calm and open space, quite welcoming and warm.

As for its menu, it has a great variety of foods and drinks, all with great flavor. Don’t miss the gorgonzola salad with figs, the carbonara pizza, and to finish on a high note: the traditional tiramisu.

China Shing

If you are a fan of Chinese food, then China Shing will become a must-visit. They serve very generous portions, making it perfect for going with a group of friends or family.

My favorites are the fried rice, the orange chicken, and the cheese banderillas are also a must. To accompany your dishes, don’t forget to order the lychee lemonade, it’s delicious!
Recommended by Alexandra Romero, Chef.
