The Mexican food is famous worldwide, especially in the United States of America, as out of a Latino population of nearly 57 million, more than half (around 63 percent) is of Mexican origin; that’s why it’s not uncommon to find many
Mexican food places in the neighboring country.
Some are a recent success and operate in a ‘food truck’ format, while others are well-known restaurants showcasing the most prominent examples of Mexican cuisine, such as
enchiladas, melted cheese, and of course, tacos. If you are a Mexican living in the United States, these Mexican food places will help you get a taste of the flavors of our cuisine.
Barrio CaféThis restaurant is located in Phoenix, Arizona, where chef Silvana Salcido brings the best of Mexico to the northern country, with dishes like Oaxacan cheese fondue, or cochinita pibil from Yucatán, for example.
Nuestra CocinaIn Portland, Oregon, the couple Benjamín and Shannon González have built a restaurant specializing in “country-style” Mexican food, with dishes extending from northern Zacatecas to the eastern coast of Veracruz, making it a truly worthwhile Mexican restaurant to visit.
Leo’s TacosLeo’s is a taco ‘food truck’ with a long history in Los Angeles, California, serving delicious taquitos al pastor, which are the most famous, at a cost of just one dollar. You can find them in various locations, such as Venice Beach, Lomita Boulevard, or La Brea Avenue.
Hugo’sThis restaurant is in Houston, Texas, and is owned by Mexican chef Hugo Ortega and his wife, whom he has operated it with since 2002. In fact, in 2013, Chef Hugo was a finalist for one of the best chefs in the Southwest and is known for his ingenious and inspiring ways. The most successful dish at Hugo’s is the lamb barbacoa, so don’t miss it.
Birria LandiaThe
birria tacos have been brought to the northern country by two brothers, José and Jesús Moreno. Birria-Landia began successfully in Los Angeles and in the fall of 2019, it arrived in New York, in the Queens neighborhood, in a food truck.
DistritoChef José Garcés won in the second season of Iron Chef, and although he is Ecuadorian, he specializes in the cuisine of Mexico City; thus, at Distrito, you will find nachos, huaraches, enchiladas, tamales, ceviches, and moles, located in Philadelphia.
