Few characters love food as much as Homer Simpson. Who else would be willing to risk their life for a bite of Fugu or a giant sandwich? Probably just him, because “chocolate, mmm… invisible cola, the forbidden donut, mmm… whatever” is well received by this professional eater. That's why we've compiled some of Homer’s most iconic moments with food.
Homer and the Chili
For the annual Springfield chili cook-off, Homer makes his triumphant entrance at the fair. Here he is recognized as the master of masters, with a stomach of steel. It is even rumored that he carved his own tasting spoon. After humiliating Ned Flanders, whose sauce only has two alarms instead of the promised five, he faces Chief Wiggum, who has prepared the merciless chiles from Quetzalzatenango. In his first attempt, his tongue erupts from the heat and he is ridiculed. In his second battle, he coats his tongue with wax to eat the spiciest chiles in the world and hallucinates a whole mystical adventure guided by his nahual, the coyote, in search of his soulmate.
Claws, the Lobster
Homer buys an eight-dollar lobster with the intention of fattening it up for a grand feast. Every day he prepares breakfast for it and spoils it with snacks. Once it is strong and juicy, ready to be cooked, Homer becomes fond of the new family member and decides not to eat it. They enjoy life together, with walks by the sea and games in the garden, until Homer accidentally cooks it while giving it a hot bath. Amid tears and exclamations of pleasure over its excellent flavor, Homer eats only his beloved and sweet Claws.
The Buffet
The Cooking Dutchman promises an all-you-can-eat buffet. Excited, Homer, instead of serving himself on his plate, takes the entire trays (bath and all). He eats all the shrimp, two plastic lobsters, and continues devouring food until the restaurant closes. Captain McCallister, the restaurant owner, assures with great astonishment that Homer is not a man, but a true eating machine. Disappointed, Homer sues the place and accepts the captain's offer to become the attraction of the place: Come see the bottomless pit, a mistake of nature!
Love and friendship, astral travels, and endless meals are part of the routine of this gastronomic adventurer, willing to do anything for his love of food.
