Low-Calorie Cocktails to Celebrate New Year's Eve

It is well known that the vast majority of cocktails like daiquiris, vodka collins, margaritas, piña coladas, Irish coffee, chocolate martinis, banana cream martinis, among others, contain many calories. Cocktails are high in sugar, and some others contain a lot of cream. Still, they are delicious, but if you're trying to manage your weight during the holiday season, it’s important to watch what you eat and drink. It is noteworthy that consuming a couple of cocktails can equal the number of calories we should consume in a single day. For example, a normal-sized piña colada can have between 510 to 644 calories from the fat in coconut and the sugar in pineapple juice. The piña colada was until recently the cocktail with the most calories, but now there are others that surpass it, such as those based on cream, ice cream, chocolate, and sugar. Now, if you want to enjoy these delicious drinks while taking care of your figure, keep the following tips in mind:
  • - Try to drink some water before having a cocktail and between sips. This will help you feel full and not drink too much.
  • - Prefer natural cocktails that use fruits like lychee, watermelon, strawberries, oranges, lemons, blackberries, apples, etc.
  • - Avoid having more than one creamy cocktail.
  • - Eat snacks while drinking. This will help you avoid drinking too much, and the alcohol won’t hit you as quickly, preventing hangover discomfort.
  • - Prefer wine and spirits on the rocks (vodka, whiskey, tequila, etc.) over cocktails.
  • - Avoid drinks with sodas because regular soda adds a lot of calories.
  • - There are low-calorie cocktails that use saccharin and other similar substitutes instead of sugar, and these have fewer calories than those made with sugar, but they are not as delicious.
