There are about one million species of insects in the world, making them the predominant animal group.
They are present everywhere, but there is a higher concentration in areas close to the equator.
Of all the insects we know, 1462 species are considered suitable for human consumption. Would you dare to try them?
Although it may seem strange, eating insects is a very common practice around the world in countries in America, Asia, and Africa.
In fact, millions of people consume insects as part of their daily diet.

If you’re not exactly the type of person who is attracted to exotic dishes, here’s a list of reasons why you should give insects a chance:
1. They are a rich source of protein.
Unlike other foods, the protein content of an insect is very high, representing almost 75% of its weight. (If you think meat also provides a lot of protein, think twice: a cut of meat only has 43% protein).

2. They are easy to farm.
Have you ever had a pest problem in your garden? Then, you know how hard it is to get rid of an insect. Their high reproduction rate and short maturation period (a couple of days) make it much easier to maintain a constant food source.

3. They offer a wide variety of culinary applications.
Surely, when you think of edible insects, the first thing that comes to mind is the grasshoppers served in a taco. And, while they are truly delicious in this presentation, you can also eat insects in cookies, pasta, flour, energy bars, etc.

4. They are easy to preserve.
Unlike other foods that require refrigeration to maintain their nutritional value, insects can be kept dry and stored without losing their nutritional properties.
