One of the most commonly used natural products by humanity is honey, as it contains countless nutritional properties due to its high content of minerals, iron, calcium, phosphate, potassium, sodium chloride, and magnesium, which make it one of the most effective medicinal remedies, and it is also used as an aphrodisiac.
However, it can also be one of the foods that we most frequently forget about in the pantry.
Surely when cleaning your pantry you have pulled out a jar of honey from the back, which has been sitting there for several months or even years and seems to be just as good as the first day, with the same consistency. How is this possible?
This is because honey never expires, thanks to its high sugar concentration, which eliminates bacteria, and due to its low moisture content, yeasts do not thrive.
Properly stored honey can last up to 14 years, but preferably, you should consume it within two, as after this time it will gradually start to lose its properties.
What is honey used for outside of the kitchen?
In addition to being a perfect ingredient in the kitchen, honey can help relieve coughing and reduce throat inflammation, among other ailments.
For example, if you suffered a minor wound or burn, applying a tablespoon of honey will help you heal, as one of its benefits is aiding the regeneration of the dermis, so you could also use it as a mask or to soften rough areas of the body such as elbows, knees, and feet.
If at night you are tossing and turning in bed because you can't fall asleep, honey is a great home remedy for insomnia, as it contains relaxing properties that reduce stress and anxiety.
On the other hand, a tablespoon of honey when you feel very fatigued will give vitality to your body, thanks to the sugar it contains.
Honey could also help you with constipation, arthritis, the menstrual cycle, memory, blood sugar levels, as well as weight loss due to its diuretic effect.
Now we can only thank the bees for giving us an 'eternal' food and a remedy that helps alleviate some of our ailments.
