The way we cook affects our health. Therefore, it is very important to consider the factors that will make our meals very nutritious and delicious.
Healthy cooking avoids excess fats, sugar, and salt, which are linked to certain diseases.
Here are some tips for cooking food in a healthier way.
- To bread the cutlets, use a mixture of bran and wheat germ to add more fiber.
- Use whole grains (rice, flour, bread) instead of refined ones. They provide more vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
- When preparing salads, include different combinations and colors to ensure the intake of various nutrients.
- Keep two or three types of fruit in your refrigerator and use them as snacks or between meals. You can also use them to prepare juices, salads, flans, jellies, and purees.
- Do not cut fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C too far in advance, to prevent losing that vitamin.
- Cook leafy vegetables slowly, using only the washing water to retain their nutrients.
- The most nutritious part of potatoes is closest to the skin. Use a peeler to avoid wasting this part. Baked or steamed, they retain their properties better.
- Cook meats first over high heat and then reduce to medium or low heat. This way, they retain their juices and nutrients better.
- Replace frying with baking. To prevent food from drying out, place a container with water inside the oven.
