Coffee contains the substance known as caffeine. This beverage can offer various health benefits, but there are also points against those who should not consume it. People who should not drink coffee are:
  • - Pregnancy. For women trying to conceive, it is preferable to stop consuming coffee and caffeine or to reduce the amounts ingested to the equivalent of one cup of coffee per day.
  • - Fertility. If you are undergoing fertility treatments, doctors recommend avoiding caffeine altogether or consuming only the equivalent of one cup per day.
  • - Insomnia. If you suffer from insomnia, you should try to reduce your coffee intake and avoid drinking it after mid-afternoon so it does not interfere with sleep.
  • - Medications. If you are taking certain medications, caffeine can interfere in some cases, making side effects more pronounced or altering the action of the medication. For this reason, it is advised to ask your doctor if there are any restrictions on caffeine intake.
  • - Reflux or acidity issues. Coffee can cause discomfort for people suffering from this condition, so it is necessary to stop drinking it.
  • - Risk of osteoporosis. If your doctor has determined that you are at risk of developing osteoporosis, you need to be careful with caffeine consumption because it interferes with calcium absorption and can extract it from the bones. If you drink coffee, you should take more calcium.
  • - Cysts in breasts. If you suffer from fibrocystic breast disease, caffeine can make them more painful.
  • - Menstruation. Some women experience discomfort from caffeine if consumed during their period or a few days before it.
Important Fact It is important to note that decaffeinated coffee still contains caffeine, although in smaller amounts.
