Casa Kuri, a year of Lebanese tradition and flavor

Casa Kuri, which started as a delivery service during the pandemic, has positioned itself as one of the references of Lebanese food in Mexico City just two years after its launch.

Like the best things in life, this gastronomic project arises amid uncertainty, chaos, and the bet on something better in the face of adversity. Casa Kuri was born in the kitchen of the Mexican chef Naguib Kuri, with a Lebanese mother and Syrian grandparents, who, after a trip to Lebanon to visit his maternal family, decided to open a traditional Lebanese restaurant in the Mexican capital.

In 2020, Chef Naguib Kuri started this project exclusively as a home delivery service, but the word of mouth was so effective that the following year Casa Kuri opened its doors in the heart of the Condesa neighborhood.

One year after the restaurant's opening, Casa Kuri celebrated its anniversary with an intimate dinner among friends.

As is customary at Casa Kuri, the dinner began with the traditional Lebanese mezze, which on this occasion included tabbouleh adorned with tiny purple flowers, the classic hummus accompanied by pita bread, and a magnificently seasoned shanklish.

However, the mezze was not yet finished, as a spectacular kibbeh damasco stuffed with peperoncino, pine nuts, and caramelized onion accompanied by homemade liquid jocoque, a traditional dolma filled with rice and lamb, and a pita bread topped with melted cheese, pieces of tomato, Kalamata olives, and za’atar oil arrived.

The dinner continued with a succulent Biblos-style beef fillet served on a bed of baked potatoes and topped with crispy sliced onion and lemon gravy accompanied by a glass of house red wine.

The delicate belewe with vanilla gelato, the favorite dessert of Casa Kuri regulars, capped off the lavish evening.

Through each bite, Chef Naguib Kuri showcases the richness of ingredients, techniques, and preparations that Lebanese cuisine has to offer, making this small and cozy restaurant the perfect spot to explore the vast culinary landscape of this Middle Eastern country.
