This is the taqueria awarded by the Michelin Guide!

As you probably already know, the Michelin Guide just published its 2025 edition and there were many surprises: Máxico Bistrot, Masala y Maíz, and Expendio de Maíz earned a Michelin star. However, this year also included some tacos de canasta and a northern taqueria among the recommendations.

If you are a lover of good tacos, then you must visit La 89, the taqueria that was included in the Michelin Guide 2025 with the recognition Bib Gourmand, for the relationship between quality and price. Are you craving some birria?

This taqueria was founded by Alejandro Zárate and Bernardo Galindo in 2021, with the intention of paying homage to the street food of the north of the country. Their incredible gastronomic proposal starts from a simple premise: to cook as at home, with fresh ingredients, honest seasoning, and a technique that prioritizes charcoal. The result is a menu that reflects the best of Ensenada and Tijuana through tacos, tortas, and quesadillas made with handmade tortillas, beans from the pot, northern-style guacamole, and grilled meat cooked to order.

Since its opening 4 years ago, La 89 has positioned itself as one of the most authentic and endearing places to enjoy northern food, as although casual, it is loaded with intention. Each dish seeks to rescue the flavors and memories of northern cuisine, without pretensions, but with precise execution in every detail.

And with the Bib Gourmand distinction a few years after its opening, the recognition from the Michelin Guide represents a significant moment for the La 89 team:

“This recognition validates the work we have been doing since we opened our doors. At La 89, we cook with heart, with respect for our roots, and with the desire to share a piece of the north with every person who sits at the bar. Knowing that this intention was recognized by such an important guide motivates us to continue perfecting what we do every day,” shared Alejandro Zárate, chef and co-founder of the project.

With this recognition, La 89 joins the group of restaurants and taquerias that the Michelin Guide has highlighted in Mexico for offering honest, consistent, and accessible gastronomic proposals, celebrating flavor without the need for formalities.
