How to combat stress with just four foods

We all react differently to stress; however, a large group of people tends to counteract this overwhelming situation by eating uncontrollably.

In reality, this practice is not healthy in the long run; it merely helps to calm cravings momentarily. Researcher David Ludwig from Boston Children's Hospital, an expert in dietetics and pediatrics from Harvard University, states that it is very important to avoid the vicious cycle where the abuse of unhealthy food leads us back into stress.

This is because the abuse of sugars and carbohydrates generates an increase in anxiety. But according to research conducted by El Confidencial in Madrid, not all is lost.

There are some foods that can be very helpful in avoiding falling into the grips of pressure and tension.
These are foods rich in Omega 3, which, as explained by Joe Hibbelin from the National Institutes of Health, are a good method to counteract stress. This fatty acid helps to control mood and protect neurons.

Tuna, salmon, and sardines

These are very rich and healthy; the best way to eat them is without altering them too much.

Grilling or baking them with vegetables is an excellent option. Fried sardines are also delicious, but it is recommended to make sandwiches with them.

It is important not to overindulge in smoked salmon, as it has a higher salt content. You can prepare it wrapped with shallots, fresh tuna skewers with rosemary, and as salmon burgers with yogurt and dill.

Chocolate

It is very common for us to eat sweets and desserts when we feel most pressured; however, this is not always very healthy. The recommendation is undoubtedly to eat chocolate, but not just any chocolate.

We should try to eat dark chocolates because the more cocoa they contain, the healthier they are, as they contain less powdered milk, preservatives, and artificial flavorings.

Flax or pumpkin seeds

These seeds are not very common in our diet, but they should be, as they help us calm stress due to their high Omega 3 content. There are many ways to enjoy them; they can be toasted or baked (this way their flavor is incredible).

They can also be eaten over natural yogurt with fruit. Don't be afraid to add them to your recipes to give them a different touch.

Eggs

This food is one of the most versatile we can find. It is important to try not to always eat them fried, as they can be less healthy.

The best time to eat them is during breakfast so that we can take full advantage of their properties throughout the day. If you lack imagination for cooking them, you can try recipes like motuleños eggs, Aztec poached eggs, or with asparagus and Manchego cheese.
