We know that in gastronomy love is born from sight, especially when food is served on a beautiful plate. From grandmothers' kitchens to their exhibitions of artistic pieces at Zona Maco, few Mexicans are unaware of or have not enjoyed a delicious dish on
Anfora dinnerware. It is a Mexican ceramics company that has weathered a thousand battles and remains standing, adorning our tables for a hundred years!
The culinary heritage of Mexico has been reinvented alongside its dinnerware, which is why we share some secrets of a company that has won the hearts of Mexicans, in the context of its 100th anniversary.
National prideAnfora was one of the first three companies to bring ceramic production to a massive scale in Mexico. They began in 1920 with a factory located behind the
Penitenciaría de Lecumberri in Mexico City.
During its first decades, the government encouraged citizens to eat on their dinnerware, as they stood out for using high-quality national clays, on par with any imported product.
International renownBy the 1960s, Anfora was dressing the tables not only of our homes but also of the best hotels and restaurants in the capital, such as
San Ángel Inn, Centro Gallego, Sanborns, and Danubio.
The athletes of the Olympic Village also tasted authentic Mexican dishes on their pieces during the 1968 Olympics, and even
Marilyn Monroe was photographed in front of an Anfora plate during her visit to Mexico.
A new eraIn 1994, the company moved its factory to its current location in
Pachuca, Hidalgo. New times called for a grand celebration, and President Ernesto Zedillo attended the inauguration of the new facilities.

A couple of years later, a peculiar order came in from Rosarito, Baja California. It was a replica of antique dinnerware for the blockbuster film
Titanic, directed by James Cameron.
Despite the large-scale entry of Chinese ceramics, Anfora has managed to adapt to the times without losing its quality. Today, it continues to surprise us with durable pieces and designs that honor the creativity of new generations.
