The patriotic celebrations are approaching, and one of the stellar dishes is the delicious pozole. This quintessential Mexican dish is the favorite when deciding what to have for dinner at the Mexican fiesta celebrating our Independence, especially because it is a dish that is really very easy to prepare. As we know, traditional pozole is usually red and made with pork, known as the Jalisco style. However, some of our family or friends may not enjoy this variant much, either because they are not used to eating spicy food or because they are vegetarians and simply do not include pork in their menu. This time, we present other ways to prepare pozole so everyone can enjoy a perfect patriotic celebration.
  • First, instead of preparing the broth red, which is made with ancho, guajillo or mirasol chili, you can switch to a green broth made with árbol or serrano chili. For those guests who are not very fond of spicy food, you can leave the broth white and prepare salsas separately for those who do enjoy the chili flavor to add to their taste, thus giving you 3 different flavors in one night.
  • Regarding the pork garnish, it can be replaced with shredded chicken breast. But as we know that some of your guests may be vegetarians, we recommend offering them the option of mushrooms or champignons, zucchini flowers, or poblano chili strips instead of meat. These can be prepared very easily, just sauté them in a pan with a little onion, garlic, and salt to taste.
As you can see, there are many other ways to prepare this delicious Mexican dish, just to please even the most demanding palate so that everyone can celebrate properly during these patriotic festivities.
